Driving with suspended registration

Driving with Suspended Registration

Under Georgia law, any person who knowingly drives a motor vehicle on any public road or highway of this state at a time when the vehicle registration of such vehicle is suspended, canceled, or revoked shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

This is NOT the same as a charge for driving with an expired tag. Driving with a suspended registration carries with it a minimum fine of $500, and an automatic 120 day license suspension. A charge for expired tag however, will not suspend your license and generally carries a much lower fine.

There are several possible defenses to a charge of driving with suspended registration. For example, an experienced traffic ticket lawyer may argue that you lacked actual knowledge of the issue, since knowledge is an essential element of the offense.

Given the complexity of the relevant caselaw and statutes relating to these types of charges, we recommend speaking with a traffic ticket lawyer as soon as possible. We would happily give you an assessment and precise quote at no cost. Contact us today to learn how we can help.
